This week I have been fortunate enough to try two new restaurants.
Tuesday, I went to dinner at Duke’s Grocery with the other two girls left from grad school. They both have amazing jobs, and are two of the most fashionable girls I know. It is always great to get to catch up with them. We chose Duke’s because it claims to be an East London neighborhood type pub. I really wanted to try their Salt Beef sandwich – one of my favorite things to get in East London, but of course it wasn’t on the menu. They change up their menu every day depending on what they have fresh, and the salt beef goes through a process that doesn’t allow them to serve it every day. We split the truffle mac and cheese…which was so decadent. I had a “Proper Burger” for dinner. It was really good, with bacon, cheese and pickles. It wasn’t quite the Byron proper burger I am use to from London, but it was tasty nonetheless. All the delicious food coupled with great company made for an awesome night!
Wednesday, Anthony and I went to Range to celebrate his birthday. It is a Brian Voltaggio restaurant in NW DC. The idea is each place is made to share, and they recommend three plates per person. They had so many great options from areas like… raw bar, salumeria and cheese, pizza, salad, pastas, veggies and mains. We ordered a bottle of wine to mull over our decisions. We ended up with bone marrow, a kale cesar salad, goat cheese ravioli, rib eye with sweet potato, and pork chop with fried pickles and baked beans. It was all so good and fresh. The pork tasted, and looked a little, like fatty bacon. Absolutely everything was delicious. We had a dark chocolate dessert, with a special chocolate Happy Birthday sign.
I was so in food heaven, I even forgot to take pictures. That is when you know it is good!
