Today was an easy day at school. In the morning we discussed Ceramic and Decorative Arts Conservation. Which I love. A part of my Museum Practice course was on conservation, and this guest lecturer used a few of the same examples. She was fascinating. She is the current person in charge of the vases that the visitor smashed at the Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge. That was a big controversy because it is possible he didn’t just fall down the steps but fell on purpose (and could have even had a hammer in his hand at the time). Reasons being there were two points of impact on the vase, and …it seems like you have to hit a 45kg vase that has sat there for almost 50 years pretty hard to get it to smash like that. She is also certified to work on royal collections, which is really cool…
